Seagrass surveys are conducted for various purposes related to development. Among these are to identify species, to determine density, and to investigate status of seagrass habitat, and what factors are causing or have potential to cause damage to the ecosystem. Federal, state, and local governments have developed policies and regulations to protect coastal and estuarine habitats.
