PROJECT DESCRIPTION: CZR Incorporated (CZR) prepared an ArcView-based GIS map and database for a 70,000-acre mine continuation project area. Parameters mapped and analyzed included wetlands, high-quality wetlands, streams, riparian buffers, navigable waters, estuarine shoreline, and cultural resources. High quality wetlands were further subdivided into six community types. Information for the map and database was compiled from a variety of sources, including soil maps, topographic maps, previous field delineations of wetlands, aerial photographs, and state historic site records. Additional field data were collected on wetlands and stream origins.
CZR presented the GIS mapping and database products to the multi-agency Permit Review Team in a series of meetings. The GIS products enabled the Team to evaluate the locations, types, and amounts of sensitive environmental resources within the Project Area. These GIS products formed the basis for the Team’s selection of portions of the Project Area for the development of alternatives to be analyzed in detail in the EIS.
