CZR determined the suitable scrub jay habitat using field indicators and previous cover mapping. Biologists traversed all scrub habitats (approximately 500 acres) in accordance with the methodology in Fitzpatrick et al., 1991, Technical Report No. 8 – Ecology and Development Related habitat Requirements for the Florida Scrub Jay. Suitable breeding ranges were traversed by foot to locate active nests using the presence of birds as indicators. Nest locations were flagged with surveyor tape and sketched on drawings. CZR conducted a site review meeting with representatives of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to present the results of the breeding season re-survey. Revisions to the site plan were evaluated to maximize site development while providing for no impact to scrub jays on site.
